I have an early 2006 GS. To switch off the ABS you have to switch off the key, press and hold the ABS button while switching on until the self test is complete. This is a PITA - and dangerous. On the birthday run the other day I hit a moerse rock - Lets call it Ryperd's rock - because after I moered over and switched everything off, I didn't make sure the ABS was off when i got back on again. So here I go on my final attempt up the sandy slope, and out of the bushes looms this rock the size of a box of rum (12 bottles). I squeeze the lever - nothing. I squeeze harder - more nothing. So I bliksem into the rock head on and move it by about a meter.

Anyway - on the later 2006 model GS you can turn off the ABS at will - I believe. Is there perhaps a firmware upgrade available that sorts this out?
