This morning at 6:30 I decided to saddle up the 200 and go and do some exploring, the Grootrevierspoort through the Baviaanskloof Wilderness area to Steytlerville, I’ve heard many stories about this road hence the decision to use the 200 rather than the GS.  :ricky:

Heading out along the Elands river road ..... this time of the day always makes for fantastic riding.

100_0839.jpg

That’s more or less where I’m headed ...

100_0840.jpg

The Suzuki is not skipping a beat and the scenery is just so awesome, we live in a really beautiful country!

Turning off the Elands River Road to the Grootrevier road this is what I met with, these photo just does’nt do it justice ;D

100_0845.jpg

100_0847.jpg

....... more scenery......

100_0848.jpg

So what’s up with this signboard? I doubt I’d see any trucks along here ....

100_0850.jpg

More technical road .....
100_0851.jpg

and scenery...
100_0853.jpg

and technical road..... confirming that I had chosen the correct bike for the task at hand  ::)

100_0854.jpg

and scenery ....
100_0857.jpg

Lot’s of the farmers in this area appear to be “Leopard friendly” in a way I was hoping to see a friendly Leopard ....... but alas they are hard to spot ....  ::)
100_0858.jpg

A water crossing ..... Yeeehhhaaaaa!!!, unfortunately it was’nt very deep :(

100_0859.jpg

I had just riden along that road down there ...... it’s amazing that I did not see the people camping down there .... until I was up here ::)

100_0861.jpg

Quite a deep valley there ....

100_0862.jpg

I see some Dog’s have been marking their territory  :mwink:

100_0864.jpg

This little scoot is really running well, it’s just such a more relaxing ride, one can’t go fast for obvious reason and I found myself taking in more of the scenery .......

100_0865-1.jpg

Through the poort and heading towards Steytlerville
100_0866.jpg

100_0867.jpg

The metropolis of Steytlerville ....
100_0868.jpg

After filling the bike with all of 5.88L of fuel and 166km’s ... yip .... over 28km’s/ liter, I filled myself with a “brunch” at the Royal Hotel

100_0869.jpg

The trip home was along this “gravel highway”, until I decided to turn off ..... after all I was exploring ;D

100_0874.jpg

I stopped at this drift, note the odd shaped weir in the background .....
100_0875.jpg

... is there any particular reason why this would have been built like this ... any of you clever fellows out there got a clue?  :-\

100_0881.jpg

This tortoise was one of the many animals I saw on the trip, the others all disappeared before I could take a pic .. Baboon, Monkey, Duiker and Kudu been the most predominant and then there were 2 beautiful African Hawk eagles that amazed me.

100_0882.jpg

Note the shadows under the trees on the far hill ....

100_0883.jpg

Leaving the mountainous area .... note how green the valley is?

100_0893.jpg

Well that’s almost the end of the ride report, the mirror reflecting where I’ve been and the road ahead ... homeward bound.

Some statistics:
The bike’s consumption home was 5.88L for 172km ... 29.25km’s/L, which increased my smile factor for the day, for less than R100, 338km’s of road had been explored .... what a bargain!
Max speed for the day 101 km/hr
Moving Average 52.5 km/hr
Saddle time a gruelling 6.5 hours, that saddle damn near killed my ASS  >:D

Very very nice BB. That is surely 200 terrain but I've come across many a guy on the groot bikes through there. Personally been through that valley minimum of 50 times and it stays beautiful.

Lekker to see that you are enjoying the "pro's" of the small cc bikes.  Nice one BB.

Went through there in December with 3 guys on big KTM's and myself on a GS1200. You are correct that the 200 is better suited for this but if you are careful the big bikes can go anywhere.

Awesome scenery though!! ;D

Very nice BB.
I have to/want to do that road!! :thumleft:

Lekka RR, do you now appreciate the seat of the GS  :thumleft:
The GS seat is a "lazy-boy" as compared .... yes it's definately appreciated ....

How far is it between refuelling points ?
For me it was 166km on the way out and 172km on the way in. That was PE-Steytlerville-PE. If need be one can refuel at Rocklands on the way out (30/40km's from PE) and on the way back one can refuel in Uitenhage (again about 20/30km's from PE).

Great RR nice pics !! We did it in december 4 Africa twins and a KTM 990 Adventure s , while I stopped for a smoke break I heard the distinct sound of na  no lets call it intercourse and as I turned around there were these two tortoises giving it horns !!! They really sound like two old people boning !
Also a photo of Jupiter and his 18 year old son going down there two up !!! That boy can ride !
