For me the Dakar is a high risk and reward event for manufactures.
I know that not much is standard on a rally car but with such a huge audience following the Dakar and millions of dollars spent on development they can either get burnt or come out smiling.
Peugeot has reaffirmed my perception that they are unreliable. Toyota has affirmed that they reliable
VW shot themselves in the foot regarding their reliability a few years ago
Not that I am in the market for a Chinese bakkie but if I was I would have a good look at the GWM based on last years results
Mitsubishi Pajero although not a force now in the Dakar I still perceive as a reliable vehicle due to past successes.
With the bikes obviously Honda and KTM have come out tops when it come to marketing there brand
If I wanted a hardcore truck - Kamaz ;D
