Fud is a brilliant teacher, he covered all the facets of trouble shooting for my benefit, knowing that I'm going to join the club one day. Thanks Fud

Next time I'll check the obvious first!

I had sudden power loss - I could ride at 70km/h, but open the throttle and just groaning and spluttering.
Got to Upington and we flushed the carb bowls and replaced the fuel line and put in a new filter.
Same thing.

I bought a tire at Bike World and abused Mike's workshop to do a minor stripdown.
Luggage off.
Seat off.
Tank off.
Toolbox out.

Boersoek'nbike says "Check the jets. "
I say "We did that before we came down."
Coil has a chip and a crack - fix with Q-bond.  No difference.
Swap plug leads LtoR - no difference.
Swap coils with BsnB - no difference.
Get down and dirty on the floor and take off the LH carb bowl.  Take out the jets. Clean as a whistle. "I thought so!" I say to myself.
Check the RH side.  In the main jet is a tiny piece of dirt as big as a pimple on a flea's penis.
Blow it out with compressed air and reassemble.
POWER to the Beemer!

Next time your Airhead feels down on power, guys,  :patch:
Check the f%$ing main jets!.   :eek7:
You need a 8mm spanner and a 10mm one.
Keep them in your riding jacket pocket, not in the toolbox under the seat under the luggage roll...FFS!  ::)

Then check anything else...  ::)

Oh yes, by the way...  ::)

Always have a recycled plastic carrier packet nearby so you can put it over your boot.
That way when the pushrod seals go hard and crack,
the oil spray doesn't go onto your boots.

Because when the oil spray does go onto your boots,
you tend to put your boot further back on the footpeg...

and then the exhaust burns away most of the inside of your boot's heel,  FFS ! :xxbah:

in the group pic - the bike with the blue decal on the fairing ( next to the bronze machine) looks uber cool !

In fact they all look amazing - well done guys.

O yes, by the way ...
Always carry a spare drive shaft with you
It could come handy one day.

Harry do you have to get a new shaft now or is the weld/fix permanent?

As we all know nothing is permanent. I would trust the repaired drive shaft on normal dirt roads.
But if you go a little bit further, no.
A proper drive shaft from HPN is close to R 7k.
This is not an option for me at the moment. I'll make a plan.

DH, it would be far more convenient to carry a complete extended rear swingarm with driveshaft.   ;)
That way you can change it on the side of the road, without worrying about that strong spring at the rear.    ;D
…unless of course, your final drive gets stripped.
I think you had better to carry a swingarm WITH final drive in your backpack.  :mwink:

Seriously though, I'm glad that you and the bike (and the spanner) made it home safely.  :thumleft:

PS: Thanks - the carbs and spanner are safely back in my garage.  :thumleft:

Hi BSnB...!  :mwink:

How goes it with the front shock seal?
Are you sorted?

Hi FM, LEkke man..

YEs, frontfork's sorted for good, both. My gearbox output seal's leaking though. Need to find courage. Also want to pull the heads, cause mine's leaking also like your's. think I'll do the valves as well. Do you have any info on the red battery everybody's talking about?

I've always wondered aout these absurdly big protruding footpegs on our airheads...
