Really great report.

Thanks so much for sharing :ricky:

Enjoyed that.  Told Mrs Three Dawg about the the stones thing.  Her reply would have made a stevedore blush, but hey, you've gotta keep motivated eh?

Thanks, Mother, what an awesoem ride-along. Did you plan routes? Toss a coin when you got to an intersection? Or just ride with an idea of where you want to end for the day? I assume also you did not book any accommodation beforehand?

Thanks again for sharing!

:thumleft:

mostly i would look at my map a day or so before........i more or less wanted to go around the country to see places i hadn't seen for years or not at all.......most of all i wanted to enjoy my ride

where exactly i ended up for the night was  random.......i never booked other than to call like Trennerys to see if they were open and rates ..... because i didn't want to do the hectic ride to the coast and find them closed because of Covid........I called them from Butterworth only when it was getting time to decide where to crash for the night......the other place i called as i got to their sign saying closed was Klein Pella........i didn't want to waste doing a 50km gravel return trip......luckily they were open for camping only R115 per day bargain
everywhere else i just rocked up and negotiated a place to stay
even when picking a route i would change my mind based on time where i was

i packed to be self sufficient ie tyre repair pump food water tools washing power for clothes.......
but the thing in SA is you are never too far from civilization either
at Klein Pella no shops so i was able to eat and drink my own supplies for two days...

thats what made my trip so nice was that it wasn't too planned

if the road was too ****** i would slow the pace or take an alternative this also contributed to where i got for the day or where i slept

Fantastic trip you did Mother.
May I ask, you've just been around South Africa. Any particular region like ie. Northern Cape etc that you prefer. Things like the people, the hospitality, the vibe, scenery, climate etc.. Please say why if you like a particular area?

Thanks!
Rex

Holi Sheet,,, what a proper report.  :thumleft: :thumleft: planning on doing the same,,,just starting from BFN going north and then going clockwise ,,, Leaving as soon as our company shut down period starts over December... Also comes down to 6000+ km. Wil also start a RR for it...Cant wait to take the twin for a spin.

Lekker gelees en fotos gekyk, dankie.

Hi Rex Thank you

All the people i found helpful and friendly......perhaps i was lucky or its the peoples way when you are a lone biker.....a lot were curious as to why so far ...why alone...etc

The eastern part of the country is exceptionally beautiful but busy with lots of places and people......was very fortunate being there mid week so it wasn't overly busy like on a weekend

i personally prefer the remote solitude to the west coast and places like Hondeklip bay or Klein Pella and the remote Tankwa i enjoyed

For me and the open spaces with very little people .....that rings my bell for getting away

my absolute favourite place to ride is Namibia .......remote......friendly people.......scenery....

West Coast north of Kamieskroon along the orange is probably as close as one gets in SA so same vibe.........hopefully this answers your question

When we were in the Cederberg, West Coast and Namakwa in early September, I found that area almost like a piece of old South Africa. I live in Gauteng and the atmosphere there is so much more relaxed. Never encountered the kind of entitlement and arrogance we experience up here almost all the time. Much more respect and verdraagsaamheid between everyone. I could live there.

The favorite areas that you mention appeals to me as well, for the same reasons. Child of the Namib desert.
