I was warned the 150 km dirt from Askham to Vanzylsrus was a nasty piece of work.........but hey what do you do.....

Not far out of Askham the rain stopped and the skies opened up.........the road got more and more corrugated and it just didn't let up no matter which side i rode on........i watched my gps slowly tick down the 150km to Vanzylsrus.....this road was painful to say the least..........10km to go i thought ...yay not too far now and then the sand got sandier and zigzagged all over the place.....

The last 10km ended up being the most painful and shittist for me........
i was glad to eventually get to Vanzylsrus......and the hotel was a welcome break for breakfast and refreshments.........the bonus was when they told me the dirt road to Hotazel was now tar........i was going to enjoy that break in the dirt big time........
I did that road a few years back before tarred in a 4x4 and also hated it. The corrugation is the worst I have ever done!! [emoji51]

A lovely, soulful travelogue, Mother.

From one old bullet to another ...

First off, thank you for an incredible ride report.

i have read and reread this several times.

i made us realise that we have seen basically nothing of this incredible country and my wife and i were actually a bit ashamed and a wee bit emotional about that.
so that being said. long discussion were had and bit of soul searching (that was scary as there is some dark **** in there and they have cookies lol)
so we had planned on selling the tiger anyway, the wifey would rather pillion it seems) and off i trotted my chubby *** of to a couple dealers to just have a look around.

obviously my rt (what an amazing bike that i absolutely love) was not the perfect choice for the south african experience.

so thanks to this amazing ride report, THIS HAPPENED.....

Here is to a new adventure :thumleft:

Wat a true gentleman!!!. Have ridden with him in 1999 for the first time and we still keep in touch!! :thumleft: :thumleft:

On the 2000 D Run he dumps his twin between Hotazel and Van Zylsrus. I stop to hear if he is ok and ask what happen? His answer "i dunno what happened but I better find out cause i can't be doing this often it hurts"!!!! :lol8: :lol8:

Wonderful that you guys know him as well! What a true gentleman!!! :thumleft: :thumleft: :thumleft:
