After having had a shoulder operation 2 months ago Ive only been on my bike 3 times. Short trips and my shoulder was not
happy afterwards.
Today I wanted to go a little further and see what the shoulder does.
Took the dirtroad from my place to Albertinia. Fuel and roosterkoek for padkos and took this road.
Our area is so much greener after the rain we had.
Passed this turnoff that goes to the Gouritzriver.
Going down this little valley towards a small river that flows towards the Gourits. Aloes everywhere.
Just crossed the little river.
The yellow flowers are "Sierings" One can eat the stems. Very sour taste!!
Turned off right towards the Gouritzriver below.
Locked gate. Luckily I know how it looks on the other side.
I was there just after it happened in 2006. On my Dakar.
Suppose it will never be repaired.
This is how they get the sap from the Aloeleaves. Dig a sallow hole. Put black plastic in the hole and the sap runs from
the leaves into the hole which the harvesters then collect. Happens in July/Aug.
This lot have already been collected.
Backtracked some more and again turned off towards the river. See the writeing on the gate. Met a farmer here and talked
while.
Turned around and rode towards the Langeberge. Bluecranes. Stunning birds.
This house should have some interesting stories to tell. Empty buildings are sad!!
At least the streams have some water in now.
Anybody want a Isuzu Cabriolet?!!! Story behind the roofless bakkie is that the farmworkers rolled it coming back from a
party. So the farmer just chopped the flat roof off with a grinder!! Not nice in winter I guess!!
I love this road!!
Lunchspot.
This bikeriding makes one hungry!!
So I see this field full of vygies. Need to get closer.
Canola starting to show its colours.
Took two leftturns on a road I have not been on before to get to the big vygiefield. The field slopes away from me!!
Cannot see much.
I backtrack a bit and start rideing south towards the N2.
Is this perhaps BEES?!! :thumleft:
Aaaaaah Im lucky!! Another field full of vygies!!
Quickly stopped on a friends farm to look at two of his four antique tractors that still has to pull their weight everyday.
His neighbor mines dye that is exported all over the world to dye clothes.
I go over the N2 to another dirtroad that takes me home. Did 181km and had fun.
Its good to be rideing again!!! :thumleft:
Thanks for reading.
