Two of us are departing next Tuesday on a 6500km trip through Nam. We will be completely self-sufficient with no support vehicle. That means tents, matresses, stoves, pots, lantern, food, water, extra fuel etc. We've done a similar trip of 6000km last year through SA, so we are quite prepared. I've traveled most of Namibia and Southern Africa in the comfort of my ancient Land Rover, but not on 2 wheels. We haven't done sand before, or river crossings. Does anyone have any tips and comments that might come in handy?
We plan to each take:
5l fuel extra for a 350-400km range.
3l of water per day. Is that enough for the dry heat.
500ml oil & 500ml anti-freeze coolant
What temperature/ climate can we expect? I know the nights are cold
Any rain recently?
What would be a good tyre pressure for the gravel roads, and for sand?
Should I take a:
water pump kit for my 2000 BMW F650GS?
clutch cable (replaced last year)
my sat phone?
thanks in advance!
