It was soon going to be dark and we were far away from our lodging. What followed must count among the worst 90 minutes spent on a bike.......going through ******** towns like Tugela Ferry and riding at high speed after dark with a smoked visor....... I was glad to arrive at Battlefields lodge in one piece. :eek7: :eek7:

Rode through Tugela Ferry on two occasions. It's to date the only town in my travels where I've felt unwelcome. A real ********

My first proper ride in Rural KZN and I must say I've never felt so unwelcome in general. Everywhere we went people refused to greet us and kids threw stones at us. I was hit with a rock on the side of my helmet and it left me slightly dazed and confused for a couple of minutes. I'm so used to people being friendly where ever we ride in the Lowveld and Swaziland that this experience came as a bit of a surprise. In the deep rural areas it was a bit better though....
Maybe it had something to do with the general mood in the country at present......

Thanks Sheepman!

This was the Red/Black route. There will be less demanding routes for those who aren't into this type of riding

Like a beast!! Such capable machines! :3some:
Look, it's a heavy old bike, but I really enjoyed the ride!

Dit lyk great moet sê, maar is daar n rede dat hierdie event nie eerder in die Larveld gehou word.....? Seker oor meer sentrale ligging...?

Sorry, no.
The area you were in was unwelcome more than 20 years ago already, and your experiences confirm nothing's changed.

I also took a few pictures

From the Bloemfontein side we rode through Golden Gate which was completely burnt.

The tar road is definitely not boring

We crossed Colin’s pass. The pass has some serious erosion problems

Further on as we crossed the border into Natal the roads are beautifully maintained and a joy to ride with very nice views.
