Ginger Bread Man and myself did a nice 230km Recce ride out west towards Magalies yesterday.
Part of the trip was to include the Millsite Shunting yard and go have a look at all the old steam engines.

Apparently according to the greedy security specialists working there, you need to make a prior appointment to gain access into the yard and look around> A hint at a possible "fee" to get that access could also be negotiated. Now there were 3 of the lazy bastards, so we offered them R50, sounds fair to me to go have a quick look around, "No!! Thats peanuts, Make it R150 or R200"
I am guessing they thought I looked like their father and should be supporting them financially, we eventually left the place telling them we would be back with the FREE access granted and they wouldnt even be having peanuts with the R50 we offered.

So who knows where and how we can get said permission?

I guess I should tell you interested folks more about the ride as well.
That will come, first I had to rant

I don't know the answer to your question, but I'd like to join when you guys go there again, if that's okay?

My first job, after leaving school, was a stoker... the guy that kept feeding coal to the fire on steam locomotives. Backbreaking stuff, I tell you. Would be nice getting close to them again.

Absolutely, no problem
Not sure when, but we will make a plan  :thumleft:

Easiest way to see those trains operating is to come out to Magaliesburg station next Saturday the 21st. Reef Steamers does a trip from Park Station to Magalies and the train stands in Magalies Station from about 11am to 2pm. There's a market as well selling food and knick knacks. More info here : https://www.facebook.com/Magaliesstation

Apparently next week they are going to have 2 steam locos on one train, should be interesting. While they are standing there you can get in the engine and have a look at all of the brassoed pressure gauges etc..

Directions : Go to Magaliesburg on the R24. Turn left and go past the Spar and Supakwik. Keep going straight until the road turns right and the  entrance to the station is on your left. If you go straight on the little dirt road from here you will cross the railway tracks and can park in the market/picnic area.

That will be cool to go see as well, but the Train graveyard is a little different and could be interesting too
