Lito said something on this topic which went completely against what I thought to be the logical conclusion when it comes to sand riding, lekker knobblies.

I'm gonna take the Dakar up Dune 2 in April (or at least try to see what can be done) and need to know what tyre would be the best. Back and front.

Keep in mind that I have to do 2500 odd km's on dirt trails/tar as well. 70/30 Dirt/Tar.

Don't mind to completely use up the tyre/s in that one trip as long as I can do the dirt and some red routes as well as play lekker in the sand.

JM, on that note about tyres and sand, I have had most success with a smooth DS tyre as opposed to a knobbly, and thats been tested and proven on 3 bikes - Dakar, 1150 Adv and 1200. In fact, my mate who is very capable, changes his wheels on the 1200 when it comes to sand riding back to Tourances for the sand excursions....
