If you are like me and consider the map on your GPS to be the most important feature then look at the images at the bottom of this post.
I use the big 5 Garmin products (CURRENTLY ON SALE) best suited for motorcycle use.
The red areas are the spaces actually assigned to view your maps on.
First up is the 60CSx
Garmin claims it has a display resolution of 160x240 pixels (3.8 x 5.6mm screen size)
A small piece of that screen real estate is taken up by the info bar at the top of the screen leaving you with 160x220 pixel usable map space.
So in effect the smallest usable screen of all the models listed here
Next is the Dakota 20
Garmin claims it has a display resolution of 160x240 pixels (3.8 x 5.5mm screen size)
The info and zoom buttons are semi-transparent leaving you with the full 160x240 pixel usable map space.
So in effect a larger usable screen than the 60CSx
Next is the Oregon 500
Garmin claims it has a display resolution of 240x400 pixels (3.8 x 6.3mm screen size)
The info and zoom buttons are semi-transparent leaving you with the full 240x400 pixel usable map space.
So in effect a slightly larger usable screen than the Zumo 500 with a far higher image resolution
Next is the Zumo 500
Garmin claims it has a display resolution of 320x240 pixels (7.2 x 5.4mm screen size)
A substantial piece of the screen real estate is taken up by the info bars at the top and bottom of the screen leaving you with 320x155 pixel usable map space.
So in effect a less than the Oregon 500
Finally the Zumo 660
Garmin claims it has a enormous display resolution of 480x272 pixels (9.7 x 5.7mm screen size)
A substantial piece of the screen real estate is taken up by the info bars at the top and bottom of the screen leaving you with a respectable 480x190 pixel usable map space.
Still a large map space but too much lost to irrelevant data
The two Zumos would have been better off if you could switch off the data fields or at least make the bars semi-transparent
