Almost all of the pictures below are snapshots from GoPro footage taken by Sandstar. A couple are taken from footage from Blob. Please correct me if I get any of the names wrong.
Some roads were rather muddy-looking, but I found it ok as long as you kept to the car tracks and looked far ahead.
Most of the roads were good gravel.
In case you didn’t get it, we are now here.
Shaheed1200 striking a legendary pose:
Bikes taking a break at Moorreesburg, where we had a coffee at De Oude Stoep.
We ended up on a stunning twee-spoor route, with pretty flowers and a view of snow-capped mountains. Unfortunately it was also peppered with strategically-placed mud-puddles. These were much deeper than they appeared. In the first one I entered, I created a bow-wave that wet me from top to toe. My helmet was dripping, my seat was wet and my boots were soggy. My boots are quite waterproof, which actually means that once water gets in it doesn’t get out. Quite a few had a similar experience.

Why is there a traffic jam?
The reason: mud-puddle crossing! You can see the worry from Boskind27:
She wasn’t the only one who was worried! I think most of us were thinking “???!!!!!” A comforting word from Shaheed1200 to Peppi:
“Go that way”
A helping hand to Peppi, who went down:
Pilchie had a very close call, but the guys came to the rescue, grabbing the bike before it became completely horizontal:
Go right!
Sandstar finding out what happens if you don’t go right: diagonal manoeuvres. He made a nice recovery.
Boskind27 making it to an applauding audience:
Name?
Thank goodness I hadn’t really been spectating the many crossings, so I had in my mind that I could do it. I made it without a hitch.
It’s nice to have an appreciative audience:
LanC making it look easy and cool:
Double splash!
I hit this rocky stretch at a higher speed than I would have liked. I treated it the same as sand: look far ahead and ignore the dancing front wheel. I survived!
Shaheed1200 showing off his skills:
It’s good to know that even the pros (in a newbie’s eyes, almost everyone gets this qualification) sometimes get it wrong. Shaheed1200 will demonstrate.
Everything looking good:
Where’d the back go?
That is what adventure biking is about: exploring the veld.
We found an un-crossable river (Berg River) and had to turn back.
After a (very late) lunch at Spur, we headed back.
