A ride without nice pictures to remember it with is pointless.
What camera is best for riding and touring?
I have a fancy Canon EOS 550 SLR with 28-200mm lens, but it is such a shlep to take it out of the tank bag, remove from carry bag, take off the helmet and take a photo, especially when you are on a roll - that I just leave it at home.
I have resorted to using an Iphone for trip pictures because it fits easily into my jacket pocket and can be taken out in a moment, but it still doesn't take the quality pictures I want, especially when a fill-in flash or zoom is needed.
So what do you use - what is the middle ground?
