Most important - have a good medical aid, luckily we are on Discovery, the chopper flight was R22500-00, the hospital costs so far have exceeded R30000-00 and are not over yet.

Have insurance, BUT READ your policy, we didn't. We got stiffed with R7500-00 excess, they tried for another R3000-00 on top of that as well!
Have a good broker at least that points out all the 'fineprint'. I believe Operator is going to be invaluable in this regard, a tailor made policy is just what we as WD's need.

Wear the correct gear, Peaches was wearing full BMW kit, the helmet was replaced although it still looked ok, and her Savanah pants will be re-stitched.
Correct gear of any reputable brand is essential, everyone that has seen the pictures is of the opinion that Peaches got off lightly, given that her impact speed was around 80km/h.

If you have BMW-on Call, do not think they are the be-all and end-all, all they did for us was cost us around R3600-00 in recovery costs, know up front that if you are NOT insurered through BMW your insurance company might NOT cover their recovery costs, and they are extremely high!

When planning a trip, consider what you will have to do should someone in your group have a major prang, not many of us do trips with a back-up vehicle, always have a contingency plan.

Have at least 2 of your group knowledgeable in first aid, I was not and had very little idea of what I was supposed to do with Peaches when she pranged, I had to rely on common sense. (yeah yeah, I heard that.... ;D)
Peaches is the one trained in first aid.

I do believe the WD support system started by Mr Big is the way to go, especially in South Africa, we are widely spread with huge resourses, I'm sure we as a group can offer quicker and cheaper assistance than any other organisation.

Lastly, the help we had from people on this forum was incredible, there may be hassles here and there, people leave the forum for whatever reason, but it remains an AWESOME bunch of people.

Hopefully the school fees we paid can save someone else some money. 8)
