Our bunch - 9 bikes, me new2most - met at 7h00 at the Caltex station on the Molotto road - early to beat the heat.
We didn't manage the latter, so quite a few refreshment-stops were impromptu-ed along the way through De Wildt and on.
We even brought some takeaway beers into the Tswaing Crater - a beautiful spot, I'd not been there yet.
We had lunch - whitebread&chilliepilchards, lekkerrrr.... - at 'Menlyn', always a good stopover.
On out way back close to Pretoria some chaps veered off, and the remaining motley (and filthy) crew parked theirselves at Die Eiland for some beers and a burger roundabout 16h00 to end the day.
The pace was a bit haastig all day long, something I had not expected but appreciated - too hot to dawdle anyway.
Thanks dudes, will see some of you at the Mountain Madalas!  :thumleft:

You know what? My trip today was nothing epic. But, it was the first "fun" ride I've had in months. We just sold the smallholding, renting a small house while the purchase goes through, and for the first time in 5 years, I had a Sunday to my family. So I rode to the stables, but I took the long way round, through the Swavelpoort and off to just before Rayton. Then we decided to go for brunch and I did the gravel as much as I could.

My bike to me to my happy place.

Die naweek baie lekker in die sanderige doringveld naby Borakalalo gespeel.

Saturday saw 5 of us in the Richmond, Hella Hella area. Clive took us to some magic new spots with awesome scenery and riding. Day was marred for me by 2 punctures and then my bike started cutting out when hitting bumps and then firing again almost as if you were playing with the kill switch. Eventually my son came and recovered my bike and me. Grant elected to wait with me and we found some shade. He went exploring on his 790 and came back with cold Zamaleks. What a botjie.

Sunday saw 2 of us leaving Unhlanga and heading inland to Verulam where we entered the valleys there. 40 deg heat which saw us stopping at a river for a cooling off dip. Eventually came out in Dalton and through to Albert Falls. We are going back to explore more as there is literally hundreds of kms of dirt there which needs riding
386km for the day of which 75% was gravel and paths. Awesome day

Hi Rex

The 500 is undoubtedly better than my old 520 in just about all departments. It feels lighter, tighter and more powerful, also quite a bit more fuel efficient.

Does it feel R60k better than the 520? Not so sure , the 520 was a great bike and served me well.

But so far I am really happy with the 500  :thumleft:

Glad to hear it.

They are massive impressive bikes. Except in very tight trails where they become a real handful due to the power. Then you have to ride the clutch to tame the bike.

Are you going to add a longe range tank?

A long range tank would be nice to have sometime in the future, but for the current price of about R7500 it is not something that I am desperate to get.

Seems I can get about 180 km on the standard tank, which is fine for most of the riding I do. On the odd occasion where i need more than that, my trusty Desert Fox bladder will have to suffice.
