The Ford Dump. No, not where old Sierras go to die...
Finally, a decent day. I'd been told about a nice road along the river Findhorn down from Dulsie Bridge, and also about a loch with a castle on an island just off a road I've been down hundreds of times. Time was short so it seemed like a nice wee run, and I'd also found a 'wet road' I hadn't known about on the way back.
We started along the Findhorn valley at Drynachan Shooting Lodge after zig zagging down a couple of steep bends. There seemed to be a huge number of game birds around ready to be blasted out of the sky by toffs.
Dulsie Bridge is on an old military road to the south east of Inverness. Very little traffic and there was a picnic table on the other side of the bridge from where I parked. Very pleasant.
Bypassed Wade bridge?
Next we continued on to Lochindorb Castle. Loads of people there with kayaks and paddle boards, looked very jolly.
Lochindorb. Loads of people just out of shot...
Mrs 3D's iphone's coping with the flat light better than my Olympus...
After skirting the loch, we joined the A939 heading north to the ford at Fornighty. It really didn't look much, so ignoring all common sense, and everything I know about so-called adventure riding, we ploughed straight in. But not out.

It was a ******* to pick the bike up what with the already slimey bottom being made worse by the oil pissing out of the trashed cam cover. I felt my shoulder go when the bike went over, and I suspect I damaged it some more lifting the bike, but it couldn't stay on its side. Fortunately Mrs 3D was unhurt.
Once upright we couldn't push the bike out, but after a while a farmer (Ian, a 1200GS owner) came along and shifted the bike to the side of the road.
As far as we could get it.
Treacherous bottom.
Fortunately I had a wee bit of signal so I was able to call recovery, and my mate Andrew who ran Mrs3D home in time to meet some guests who were checking in to the B&B.
I got home a couple of hours later and went to A&E who confirmed I'd trashed the ligaments in my shoulder and fractured a bone in my foot. Bugger.
A baldy heeded Muppet.
Doesn't look like there was any damage to engine internals, but a few broken bits to replace, and a set of crash bars to fit. Sheesh. Happily Andrew knows these bikes, so he's twirling the spanners while I can't. Suspect the bike will be ready to ride before I can ride it.
Anyone got some duct tape?
