Which 1200GS ADV is best?

I took the dision to replace my 990R ADV with two bikes , a 690R  and a 1200GS ADV. The 1st part was selling the 990R and that went quickly ; the 2nd part was getting the 690R , also happened quickly ; the 3nd part is now acquiring a used 1200GS ADV. Altough I had a 1200GS ADV way back just when they were launched my question is now with the ongoing development of the model , which year model is best to buy?. Is the DOHC model so much better to warrent the extra cost?  Your input required please.
