Hello chaps
I just bought a honda NX650, 91 model. It's got the Honda XR650L engine in it.
There is a noise that sounds like a loose timing chain. The noise only appears when you rev the bike and then come off the gas i.e. when the engine revs are returning to idle. If you keep the revs constant, there isn't really any noise.
I have checked the valve clearances and they are correct (0.1mm inlet, 0.12mm Exhaust when cold). I suspect it's the timing chain and/or tensioner. The question is, does the tensioner automatically adjust and I assume there is no outside adjustment screw since I can't see it.
Any ideas on how to check this?
