Im constantly trying to find a way to get relatively acceptable fuel economy out of the XR in the hope to make it a good dual purpose bike. I have just changed the sprockets from 15/48 to 15/42 to bring cruising rpm down and I was shocked to see it still give me a horrible 13.1km/l at 80/110kph (8.13l - 107km)
This means my 25l tank would give me a range of roughly 300km. Guys in the US are getting around 450km on the same amount of fuel.
Bike runs n nice and strong and has more than enough power. Recently serviced and is correctly jetted.
Could the tall gearing be causing the extra fuel consumption? Placing the engine under load?
