We are now way behind schedule. The Rabbi rides in front with Mark so he can keep the 990 going. I fall back towards the rear of the group. The extra kilos done riding back and forth between incidents has chowed my petrol and I am nursing my reserve fuel capacity heading towards Bulawayo

The shadows are getting longer and as we start encountering heavy traffic on the main dirt roads near Bulawayo, it becomes virtually impossible to see due to dust and setting sun. The group spreads out and by the time we reach the city I have done close to 300km on my tank of petrol.

Eventually we regroup at a fuel station.

@Vosperd heads into town in search of a battery for the Rabbi’s 990. After filling up the rest of us head into the madness of peak hour traffic in Bulawayo.

We are unsuccessful in our attempts to source a battery and we head towards our accommodation another 50km away as the sun is setting.

With no working traffic lights and nobody obeying basic traffic rules, it is a harrowing experience trying to get out of town. Unbeknownst to Mark an me, The Rabbi’s 990 dies and doesn’t start again. The group is split up. Mark goes back to look for them while I wait next to the road. Nobody answering phones. What a mess….

Mark and I eventually ride out of town and stop next to the road. The group arrives a bit later, with Dries now towing Anthony and the group riding around them as a "shield" offering protection and light.
It is now dark and the tar road turns into strip road with cars speeding by from both directions. Gus' hand is injured as his hand is clipped by the mirror of a passing car. We arrive safely at our accommodation and meet up with Treff, Marc and Boris again. A few cold beers and supper is enjoyed before The Rabbi "steals" the battery from Treff's 990 to continue his ride the following day.

Hope you had no troubles with the ex goat owner? Things can get nasty sometimes cause the moment that goat dies it is promptly the value of a pedigree stud goat!! 😬

He’s fine
He was already much better the following day. Saw a Dr in Bulawayo and got to wear a boot for a few days.

Shame Treff!! Glad the injury and bike damage not to bad, but sorry for the incident and end to his trip!

The goat was grazing next to the railway line. If not a 990........ :devilish:

Glad to hear it ended reasonably well for both! I am curious as to how you got to the Hwange Safari Lodge. Did you have to leave the bikes at the park gate and catch an Uber in?

Hwange Safari Lodge is on a property that borders the National Park, the official park entrance is just a little West from the Lodge, and Hwange Main Camp is roughly 10m km further West from Safari Lodge. I have not seen any fence between HSL and Hwange NP, I believe the animals roam freely across the official Parks boundary there.
