    KLR or Dakar

Had both. KLR Cheaper to run and maintain, cheaper to buy, lighter, harder to break.

    Angie’s G spot demolitions 7 May help

I think they went with good old South African stubbornness for too long whilst believing the file will at some stage get lost and the neighbour will give up. I liked teh place as  and for what it was, I hope for all the best and I will definitely go back once they re - open..

7 pin towing plug to 13 pin 'Jaeger' adaptor? Possible?

Some CanBus cars are too clever for the 13 pin to 7 pin reducers and will give you all sorts of warnings. :)

    Boiling a Water Cooled Engine

The ethylene glycol actually does not raise the boiling point significantly (4.4K for a 50% mix to be precise) but the pressurization does. The typical system pressure of an engine cooling system (around 100kPa above ambient pressure) will bump up the boiling point by some 20K This also gives...

Piston rings for a 1980 Honda XR 250, Where can I get?

Standard size rings is pretty much the only thing that is still marked available. Every Honda dealer should be able to order them.

Electroplating/Anodizing DIY or for the experts only?!?!

You can get a lot of stuff plated for R 1,500 You don't have to deal with nasty chemicals. (Hydrochloric acid / toxic metal salt baths esp. when doing cadmium) Also remember if you want to plate DIY you will have additional cost for buying chemicals and possibly for disposal of used ones as well...

    Crack in rear brake disc

The brake disc manufacture did not work the discs all warped sooner or later even the ones we heat treated and surface ground. It's simply not the correct material. And I think it was X3Cr12. Nodico is the local importer for MetalGear here in SA. I have sold their discs for a number of years and...

    Coolant Type: Does it Matter?

The reasoning behind OAT and hybrid OAT is as so often linked to service life. The problem is as Welsh mentioned: "Product CAN have good coolant to coolant compatibility". Most of then don't have it. That's the whole issue which has been smoldering since OAT was introduced. The original...

    Bike weaves

The shock is cranked all the way up and the rear spring looks a bit suspicious (Non OEM, harder). This will cause the instability if the front is not substantially modified. If you can measure the wire diameter of the spring and count the free windings I can check against an OEM spring.

08 KLR, Power loss, smothered and flat sound

And BTW the KL650E has a tiny little fuel filter which is fitted into the carb's fuel manifold. You can pry it out carefully after removing the fuel hose from the carb, back wash it with some carb cleaner and put it back in. Re chemically cleaning the tank. Most radiator places will do it. Very...

08 KLR, Power loss, smothered and flat sound

Do NOT get the tank sealed after chemically cleaning it. The "sealant" they use is exactly the shite that gives you all the trouble. A blank steel tank is fine as long as you keep it full of fuel and don't let water in or let condensation do damage. The tanks do not have any internal coating...

    Is this the right rim?

I don't think handling should suffer much with the 3.50x17 rim. It is actually a modification which I have considered for my KLR. The OEM 2.50x17 is actually too narrow for a 130/80x17 tire, it should at least be a 3.00x17 rim and a 3.50x17 is still perfectly acceptable for this tire. For a...

    KLR Sprocket sizes-help

I once had a 47. I think  this or a 48 would be ideal. Roughly ten percent better pull and your revs at 120 will go from 5,000 to 5,500 which means you can still do freeway at the legal speed limit (if you really want to do it) without having to use the side car to hul an oil drum along.

    KLR 250

Before 1984 YM it was a KL250 and had nothing in common with the KLR250. The modes built before 1990 had more power due to running a different cam shaft. The 1990 - 2005 US models were somewhere between a Suzuki Djebel 200 and a Djebel XC in performance. If I remember correctly the last ones...

    Stripped sump plug

You will need some one with either an M12x1.5 Time Sert kit (which is very rare) or you can use a M12x1.25 spark plug thread kit which has advantages and disadvantages: The advantages of M12.1.25 spark plug repair set are a stronger thread, a new cut perfectly perpendicular crush washer seat and...

    16 tooth front sprocket?

I get bikes with changed gearing in on a fairly regular basis. I don't like them they feel pap. I once had a 15 - 47 on my KL650C. Hell that was fun. It would rev its tits off on eth freeway but who rides around on freeways anyway. Effortless opower wheelies in first and second.
