It is extremely humid and although it hasn’t started raining yet, small streams of water are started to run down the pass. Terrain is becoming super challenging and it’s a challenge to stay upright, even when walking to assist each other at obstacles.

Energy sapping stuff!

We struggle through endless mud and reach a plato where we decide to take a rest. Behind us I see the “escape route” that @Hollywood and his group took. It winds its way up the hillside and is starting to look like a much more attractive option. The ride thus far has been a huge challenge on the big bikes and I start thinking that we might be in for a huge surprise if the worst of the climb is still to come…

We soldier on as the wind starts pumping and the first drops of rain appear on my helmet’s visor…
Bigger streams are now running down the track and I drop my bike when my inseam lets me down…

Worst part was….. every time we did something gnarly, Mark would say :”This is it, worst is over, we are nearly at the top”

My inseam lets me down again and I drop my bike to the left on a wet rocky climb. Mark helps me to get it upright after which I proceed to drop it to the right….. just absolutely buggered. No energy and making stupid mistakes.

We make it to the top at last, negotiate a few muddy tracks down the other side and make it to our overnight accommodation at Tower of Pizza near Bergville in one piece.
