4 Of us in Kaokoland May 2022

After a lot of planning and help from fellow Wilddog members i managed to put together a trip to Kaokoland. I was last there in 1995 and for years wanted to return. Renrew, KTM500, Goodtogo,XR650L, My brother Kevin 790R and myself KTM 500. The date was set for 15May we meet in Grobelershoop. We then trailered to Windhoek to stay with Goodtogos friend. In Windhoek i had to go to Joes pub. From Windhoek again trailed to Usakos on the 17May where we left our vehicles and rode to Spitzkoppe on some paths and back roads. It quickly became apparent the 790 was a bit of a problem loaded in the sand. The next day we did some jeep tracks to Uis for petrol. I told Renrew and Goodtogo to continue on the planed route. Kevin and i will meet them at Palmwag lodge camp. Time for pictures.

After a good night sleep we headed off. Got petrol at the pumps at Palmwag. Again Kevin and i slabbed it to Opuwa country lodge. While the others took the planned route.

We then headed off to Epupa falls lodge camp, Via Swartboois drift. Brilliant ride, Saw lots of game along the way.

From Epupa falls we headed to Okongwati where we would get our last petrol until we get to Puros. We had a brilliant ride. We got petrol at Alfons restaurant and discovered Vet cook , chicken and hot bread. With Coke. It was a treat. I skipped this lady at Palmwag where i bought a bangle for my wife.

And we off to the famous VanZyls pass. The temp rose to 34 so it was a bit warm on some of the technical sections.

We got to the VanZyls comunity camp where we were to overnight, but decided to push on down the pass. We made good time and got down the pass, Kevin noticed his 790 felt a bit heavy on the steering to find out he got a flat coming down the pass. We set up camp at the bottom of the pass. Next day was off to Rooi drom and Marble Camp.

On to Puros we go. We were to fill up with petrol here. But Puros was out of petrol. So we sent a local to fetch us petrol in Palmwag at a price.

From Puros Kevin and i set off early for the White lady lodge but to get petrol again in Palmwag. We got to the Brandburg but his 790 didn't like the sand section ,So we made our way back to the gravel road, We eventually pulled in at the lodge just before 7PM

Thanks, was wondering about that, especially with all that weight on the rear!
As hindsight is 10/10 vision, you think a lil wider tyre might have helped?
