I love these bikes especially the new 1 and also the K1600gt  man. Those are stunning machines.

I do however love my R1200GSA which also does a great job at touring...

Reading my post again, it does come across as quite harsh. Not intended to insult, just poor choice in wording.

What I wanted to say is that if he does compare it with a ADV bike, it would not really be very useful. As the BMW R1200RT has no off road capability, and comparing it to say a GS 1200 or KTM 950 just goes to show that, that particular rider was actually just a poser and never wanted to ride off road...

The 'not nose diving' btw is partially due to the lower front, but also due to the telelever - the whole point of that elaborate contraption is to separate the breaking and suspension function and to minimize nose dive. Most of what you are describing is however probably contributed to the road bike suspension not focused on eating gravel road bumps and potholes though, so it doesn't have to be as plush or travel as far.

There are very few things motoring wise as rewarding and fun as taking a road focused bike from Gordon's bay to Kleinmond via Rooi Els.
Especially with a big torque motor like the 1200 boxer and the many many twisties where you probably stayed in 3rd for most of the way - getting into the corners a bit hot and just powering it out the other side.

And if I can quote one of my favourite comic strips of all time and apply it to the joy of experiencing and opening up different worlds than what we are used to :

I totally agree, I have a GSA for me and the missus and a wee little F650CS, which is currently in pieces, to commute.
