Advise Pls : "Flattening" Fuel Cap on XT 600

As Above.

I need to fit a Tank Bag on the old XT, but the fuel cap will be underneath the top bottom of the thing.

Do'nt want to start cutting into the bag's undersides (although an option if I really must), so I'm thinking of flattening the fuel cap (I have 2 spare caps so no issue there).

Anyone done this??
