Bought this R60/2 with sidecar almost a year ago and parked behind the house. And that's where she stayed.... Until winter hit.
Last Saturday evening when the rain came down in buckets, I said to swambo..." shame..that poor bike is drowning...I think it's time I bring her in". And that's how it started...
Due to lack of space in the cave, I was forced to quickly dismantle her to be able to shove her in a corner or under the staircase, while I continue my current project.
Then the signs..
Someone started a G/S sidecar thread..
Then fixit started a sidecar thread,
Then ...
I started this thread...
She is in a bad state and will most definitely become the wallet crusher between all the projects summed up... But one thing is for sure, she must be 100% original spec. No aftermarket bits and bobs.
So far, she has been dismantled,
and carefully placed in a corner. I promised myself not to carry on until I know what colour.....
And that's where the problem comes in...
The original idea was a military look. Matt olive drab green, with canvas, jerry cans and a shovel. But it has it drawbacks:
A) it's not how the R60/2 came out
B) camo and a shovel with new chrome headers, tailpipes, and wheels ...mmm.... Not much of a army discreet hideaway look there!
C) I may look like a ural wannabe !
So it's between
- black with white stripes ( i kinda like the porno red seat!!)
- Bristol grey with white stripes
- turf green
And that's where I am now. So far I'm leaning towards the grey. Has a military ( or even naval? ) look to it, and is original colour.
A box the size of the sidecar has arrived..Xmas came early this year.
Brand new everything from Germany ... Header pipes, silencers, lenses, seats ( both single seats!!) spokes, wiring harness, badges, controls..to only name a few! The cost of the box was more than the bike and sidecar! But I'm in it so too late she cried.
The motor will be stripped down and rebuilt. Every nut, bolt and bit. Will be like the day it left the aeroplane engine factory in the early 60's
I've always wanted a sidecar, and being BMW fits in nicely with my cave surroundings.
Sometimes late at night I sit with a cup of tea, quiet in my cave, staring at this rig.... Wondering what she has seen, been through and experienced... Sadly one will never know?!
She will be done by summer.
