BMW Riding Pants - how to repair

My Rallye III pants are showing wear at the front of the legs, after years of being hit by branches and just about anything else.

How can I repair this. Obviously I want a neat job, but cosmetics are second to an effective suggestion

I was considering a black canvas tent patch, but maybe that is not a good idea
