Bushveld 3 days

Rooi, Wolfskaap and myself did a 3 day trip up North and back again. We went up to Marken and each day worked out at 350km on the dot, I had the oppertunity to ride some new tracks close to Thabazimbi which was great. Not gonna say to much just add my pics.

Basic idea with Vaalwater as the camping spot

Friday morning, nice and overcast but no rain. Perfect riding weather

I believe this is referred to as "cow trailing", anyway the singletrack made for some nervous cattle and close encounters with the fence !

Camping at Vaalwater, we left the gear here and did a loop up to Marken and back.

I think this is called Daggakraal pass, nice and scenic. Rooi then showed us Makakeng and will make a point of camping there soon.

The valley is beautifull, the mountains in the distance almost out of a western movie - only a lot greener  :biggrin:

Lots of areas to explore, the locals were friendly and wanted to take some pics with the bikes. Wolfskaap's blue Tenere was a crowd favourite  :deal:

Some sandy bits near Marken, we wanted to take a dip in the river for the lunch break but it was bone dry. Got some sand practise instead, was bloody hot at this stage !

Sunday morning awoke in the tent to some rain, luckily things stayed dry and I drifted back to sleep. It would make for near dust free riding later on. Having second breakfast at a Marula tree  ;D

The next section down towards Marakele was a lot of fun, lots of different terrain from sand to rocks and water crossings.

Had a great ride only the Rooiberg section is badly rutted and rocky (not enjoyable on any bike) the rest of the tracks great. Thanks to Rooi and Wolfskaap - please add some pics

Joking aside, I was planning to head up there this weekend but fell sick. I wanted to go further west along the Bots border up to Ellisras and from there do the Marken, Vaalwater, Marakele route. Any chance you can share the GPS tracks?

Sorry man I feel bad now, would have been great to have you along. Thought you might still be on a trip in Bots or Zim. Also had to buy some cold medicine along the way, Med Lemon just not the same as a beer around the camp fire

Heading towards Marken here.. the cliffs here are frequently visited by my rock climbing friends.

How cool is this? a Maroela pip, haven't seen one since my school days in Thabazimbi

Really nice trip guys! That section around Marakele is just awesome riding! We did it a couple of weeks ago and it was bone dry.
