Can’t get the key into the seat lock

For some reason, I am unable to insert the key into the lock to release the seat all of a sudden. It was working perfectly until a couple of days ago. Please help, it is testing my patience. Even tried the unused spare key but the damn thing simply won’t go in all the way so I can turn the lock. Aaaagghhh….
