Can I plot a route to my GPS without Mapsource?

I want to plot a gravel route on my Garmin Quest 2, is Mapsource a neccesity or are there other ways to do it?

Is there anywhere I can download Mapsource without having to buy it as I bought the GPS without mapsource.

These questions might sound stupid but I'm quite new to this.

Any help will be appreciated.
