Weekend breakaway
Unplanned weekend breakaway started getting together on a Friday afternoon with options for the weekend ride
Planned a quick trip to Cederberg Oasis via Tankwa padstal
Hermanus, thick fog and quite chilly, filling up
Van Der Stel pass, from Botrivier to Theewaterskloof dam, first gravel section
Old cemetery on the Van Der Stel pass
Thick fog on the road, almost like a misty rain, had to wipe the visor constantly to see where we are going
Then, almost at the Theewaterskloof dam, the sun comes through the fog and what a beautiful sight it is, the sun nice and warm, this is life
Breakfast stop at Villiersdorp, Kelkiewyn
Pushing on and before Michells pass, a stop at the old bridge over the Bree river
Passing through Ceres and getting on with the task on hand, get to the gravel, tar roads are so boring
R 355 towards Tankwa padstal
Pit stop at Tankwa padstal, rebuilt after a fire last year, quite a nice change, still a popular place
On the road again, towards Cederberg Oasis
Skittery (Peerboomskloof) pass
Old farmstead, a favourite place to stop, still thinking of stealth camping here
Katbakkies pass, some youngsters on scramblers going through, not much in the ATGATT department
Crossing the Riet river
We stopped quite a lot along the way, and it’s getting late in the afternoon, time to push on
Looking back towards the Blinkberg pass
And there is our destination, dinner is waiting
The famous smiley
Accommodation for the night
After a very nice Rump steak dinner, good red wine, good company, and a good rest, it was time to
head back the next morning
Going home, is usually a quick trip with not so many stops, but, the first time there was cell phone
reception, everybody had to get back in touch with life, just like the children, and we wonder why
they do it
Gydo pass
A quick geocache find
Lunch at “Die Tolhuis”
And home, goodbyes till the next trip
A nice 650 km round trip for the weekend, some tar, some gravel, mostly gravel highways, good company, and it feels like a holiday
