Am looking for input on what bike to have in RSA and leave there for occasional use.
I visit once or twice a year for about a month each time.
I have an HP2 as my main bike and I'm based in Europe.
And I love that.
But I'm coming to RSA quite a bit and would be nice to have a bike there too.
At some point I'll ride my HP2 down.
I could buy a BMW too as a 2nd bike, then less of a learning curve.
But ideally I'd like a lighter bike (than my HP2 1200) for a change and maybe even something completely different.
Also much cheaper.
It's really just for a run-about and short trips.
No major touring.
I don't want to mess much with maintenance tho.
But will be pretty low mileage anyways.
I was thinking of a choice between a (2nd hand) KLR650 or DR650 (not the VStrom ABS tho).
Maybe a BMW Dakar, but I think is a lot more money than I want to spend on this bike.
And anyways, if I went the BMW route I know the ins & outs of it a lot better and wouldn't really need the input so much.
But outside of the tech specs on the DR650 vs the KLR650 I'm pretty clueless.
I suspect either would do me fine for what I'm looking for.
Any ideas?
