Common sense and tips while off road riding

1. It is not a race; make sure you and your kit will complete the ride.
2. Never ride without water, emergency rations and a small first-aid kit.
3. Ride within your (technical) boundaries.
4. Prevent "track pollution"- Keep to the existing tracks, don't bundu bash.
5. When overtaking another rider, make sure he is aware of your intentions.
6. Watch your mirrors in case the rider behind you has trouble.  If you don’t see him – STOP.
7. Always leave gates as you found them.
8. Private farm land – Stop, greet farmers and ask permission.  This is their livelihood and businesses.  They don’t drive tractors across your desk while you’re not looking.
9. Don’t litter - not even by accident.
10. Crossing a cattle grid with a gate open next to it – rather take the gate as the grid might be missing.  Some of us know this...
11. Washaways – cross them on the uphill side of the road as 90% of the time this will be less eroded than the downhill side.
12. Approaching a blind rise – keep left – it might save your life.  Stand – you can see better.
13. Treat each blind corner as it if there is an oncoming vehicle.
14. Tell someone where you are going and when you’ll be back.
15. Don’t ride alone.
16. Don’t ride at dusk or at night.  There might be some killer sheep on the road.
17. While riding in groups – occasionally check the wind direction and ride on the downwind side of the road (conditions permitting).  This will allow a better view of the road for the rider behind you.
18. Keep enough distance behind the rider in front to be able to avoid him if he falls or stops suddenly.  Alternatively ride in a staggered formation.
19. There is no truth to the commonly held belief in a correlation between penis size and size of bike and/or speed you ride.
