Trying to convince myself that I need a Desert X in my life...or a Norden Expedition
It means selling the 1200 which I will miss a little but I'm sure that will quickly pass.
Desert X pros:
- Just look at it
- The sound
- Long service intervals
- Just look at it
- Insurance is surprisingly cheap at R376 per month with no requirement for tracking (Norden is R385). Both are cheaper than the BMW which is half their value.
- In the long run it may be a more reliable bike than the Norden, no?
Desert X cons:
- R20k more than the Norden and you get far less (no heated grips, heated seat, pannier frames)
- Another R15k for proper skid plate and engine guards
- Only one dealer in Gauteng
- Expensive desmo service but only at 30k km
- Expensive services in general?
- Air filter access. But this is not a biggy as I've never replaced an air filter during a trip anyway.
