Our first ride to Die Hel. Left Porcupine Rest Camp at about 8.30, through Seweweekspoort, Groenfontein Road to Kobus se Gat at the start of Swartberg Pass. The first half of the road to Die Hel was easy going, but the rest was littered with small sharpish stones. Apparently they had recently graded the road and this was the reason. I managed to pick up a large hole from one of those stones in my brand new Mitas E07 just before we reached our accommodation. Managed to plug it with 3 plugs. Rode out the next day (nervously) and did Rooiberg Pass and some other great gravel on the way to our next sleep-over at Karoo Saloon. Definitely going to invest in some patches and tyre removal equipment before the next trip.

Would it not be possible to take a piece of MTB tube and cut to size and glue over the cut as a temporary patch?
Even better, take off the tyre and do it from the inside.

looking forward to this one.

I've bought some large patches to glue onto the inside and the tools required to remove the tyre for next time.

Lekker.  :thumleft:

No matter how many times you do Swartberg/Die Hel, it remains a lekker ride.

:eek7: I also would have been nervous to ride the bike with that plugs but glad it worked just fine  :thumleft:
This pass is also on my bucket list

You all miss the real question... did he have insurance on the tyre and was it repairable  :lol8:

I've had a large patch fitted on the inside and a thick tube fitted. I'm hoping to just get a few thousand km's out of it seeing as it only had about 500km on it. Breaks my heart to cough out another R2000 so soon.  :'( :'(

Bite the bullet or bite dust... throw that tyre away  :deal:

Glad you enjoyed it so much and that you managed with that tyre! Did the Hel last year on my old school Africa Twin accompanied with my brother on his 990. Can't wait to do it again, this time on my GS. Truely a lovely ride to do with your bike.

That is still such an iconic ride. Cannot do it enough. Well done on the repair. G is right though, you should consider replacing it

Go to a local BKB and get yourself a "mushroom" plug. Fits from the inside of the tyre. Problem solved and tyre will go the distance as if it had no puncture.

SPOED :snorting:

Lekker man  :thumleft: (die avontuur ek meen).

Gooi nog foties. Ek hou van die wat jy opgesit het.
