Is chain wear worse on an enduro/dirt bike than on an adventure bike?
The new chain and sprockets on my Honda CRF230F shows signs of wear (chain can be pulled away from the rear sprocket) after 8 days/25 hours worth of Transkei technical riding up steep inclines and through rivers - wear similar to 15 000km on an F800GS normal usage.
On a KTM 300 XC W the chain is gone after 120 hours and 1500 km (pulls away from the sprocket so you can see through) - it has done lots of technical rock hopping.
As most wear happens internally between pins and rollers an O-ring chain is a must to reduce wear.
The question I guess is whether one should spend R500 on an EK O-ring, or R1300 on a DID X-ring and hope that it will make the sprockets last a bit longer (sprockets have to be replaced every time)?
