I'm making up a set of DIY pannier brackets (hard alu boxes).
Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations on what steel tubing to use (diameter / thickness).
This will be for dirt roads so need something fairly strong.
Was thinking of about 18mm diameter, 2mm thickness - sound right?
What about solid steel rod, maybe 8mm - should be about same weight /strength, and then no need for a tube bender?
Any opinions or experience welcome...
