Baie lekker RR. Dit bly 'n mooi deel van ons land. Die voeltjie in die boom sonder naam is 'n Wit Katlagter.

DAY 6 – RICHMOND TO KING WILLIAM’S TOWN

A quick glance at the map showed a gravel road from Richmond to Middelburg.  A phone call to JMOL and our route from Middelburg to Cradock was sorted via some gravel back roads with a mix of good gravel highways to a tweespoor through some farm gates.  From Cradock the plan was to head straight for home via the tar.

We left once again early straight into the upcoming sun.
Leaving Richmond

On the gravel between Richmond and Middelburg

Nannie se bokkie.  I am still in her good books for that prezzie.

We saw these funny marks on the road, can anyone tell what caused it and why.  Is it a jackal or something that took a dust bath?

Close to Middelburg

Smoke brake for me again and Nannie agter die stange.

She can also do that BMW thing, meerkat………….

Between Middelburg and Cradock we took the turnoff to Tafelberg.
Passing an old church.

We saw 3 young kudus, stopped and took some photos.

They turned around and jumped the fence, one did not jump but instead, it went straight through the fence.  In the process his one front leg got stuck in die fence.  I jumped of the bike and ran towards to kudu to free it from the fence.  As I got to him I reached out towards him to free the poor animal.  I think he got such a fright that he gave one jerk and freed himself.  He stood up, looked me briefly in the eyes and disappeared into the bushes.  Nannie managed to capture some of it on video, I will post it later.
Here I rush towards the kudu.

Boer maak ‘n plan.  A brilliant invention for a farm gate.

Seems to be the Grootbrak River that later becomes the Great Fish River.

Getting closer to Cradock

We stopped in Cradock for a bite at the Wimpy.  There and then we decided to take a detour via the Swaershoekpas, instead of straight home on tar.
On our way up Swaershoekpas.

The other side over the pas

The GPS was set for a route through the mountains on roads unknown to me.  We enjoyed this route.  At stages it looked like Baviaans.

Crossing the Great Fish River

From here it was back on tar for the last 150km to King.

We arrived safely home with great memories.  This was one of our best short trips.  We got to see and do so much in such a short time.
The Karretjie behaved well and passed the test with flying colours.

Thanks to all for the arrangements of the National Bash.  It was good to see old friends there and to meet new ones.

Travel safe

Dit was woes warm toe ons nou daar was, maar die blyplekkies het aircon in.  As julle daar wil oorslaap stel ek voor julle boek vooraf.  Daar is nie baie verblyf beskikbaar nie.
