When I bought this 2007 KLR the odo/speedo screen was cracked but was working fine. Around 39k km on the clock.
at 41901km it stopped working. I Had already sourced another complete second hand speedo and tacho unit (with around 49k km) to replace the cracked screen one so now I had a real good reason to change it.

When I did the change I noticed that the thin long gear that drives the trip meter and odo was very worn, causing the problem. Unfortunately it looked pretty much the same on the new "second hand" unit. Thought I would give it a go anyway and hope for the best. It worked for 9.9km and will no longer keep record.

The actual speedo works just fine.

Is there a way to replace just this gear as it seems that the speedo/odo unit is made not to be serviced or messed with???

What are my other options besides putting a vapor or whatever on? I would like to keep the KLR clocks.

Here's a pic, its the long thin tapered blue gear at the bottom of the unit. Why they made it all out of plastic is beyond me?
