Fuel pump

HELP!!!!!!! The fuel pump on my wee is busy packing in.
TEN GRAND for a new one. Complete unit only the pump can't
be bought seperately .
Is there a 2nd one around?
Can the unit be thrown out and an external car pump fitted with in line  filter?
I need to sort this out ASAP as I leave in two weeks for Malawi and ten grand
is half of my budget which I can't afford to spend on spares.
