Groot Marico first trip and ride report.

Hey guys, well this is my first ride report...  not a big trip but a good one  Kdawg and myself hit the road for our first trip together.  We are cousins and have been wanting to do a bike trip together since we were little kids looking at our dads with envy!  hoping one day we could do the same.  

So when Kdawg got his KLR we sat and started planning on where to go.  Without any leave it had to be somewhere close to Gauteng, but still far enough into the bush to soak in the spirit of Adventure biking.  

Groot Marico was the destination we settled on.  We hit the dirt road just outside Magaliesburg all the way to Groot Marico.

The first stretch till close to Swartruggens was past farms with nothing really interesting to see.  The roads were very nice, with no technical sections... that is till we got to what looked like just a little bit of mud. Well I have no idea what type of mud that was but it was like ice!!  We couldn't even walk on it without sliding.  

Then from the Swartruggens area the road started winding through mountains and became more technical heading down into the valley where our cottage was.  We just had to acknowledge how lucky we are that we live in South Africa.  Hands down the best country to live in for this type of riding.

A brilliant destination for a quick weekend away.

One of SA's best kept secrets , it is really a lovely part of the world. I have been lucky enough to dive in the actual eye where the Groot Marico starts .

As I look at your pic's I suddenly realize I have not been back in years so this will be my next destination for a weekend ride.

It was such an awesome trip. The first of many more to come and I will def go back there. Like my cuz said we found some unexpected mud and guess who came down? Yes me  :eek7: haha but just a small slip. The first fall............... Cant wait for the next one!!!!  :biggrin: The next ride I mean not the fall.

The bash sounds looks great!!  If we not working on that weekend we are def. gonna join.

that water is so clean it must be brilliant do dive there.  I wanna go again during summer and ask try and take paddle-ski with, go up the river as far as I can.  My wife can take it with the car, we will be on the bikes
