Guglatech fuel filters

I have a Guglatech tank neck filter for my BMW GSA, the purpose of which is to catch any foreign bodies entering the fuel tank and subsequent fuel system. While I would assume fuel quality issues may not be an issue in South Africa, but may be further afield? Is this filter or something similar used by others?  If so what are your views?
