I'm having a bit of a hard time trying to find a way to mount a pair of the round 10w led spots to my 2012 KLR. The bike has SW Motech crash bars on and the plate with the pre-drilled hole in it is too low ( down at my feet ) and when I have the inevitable off, the light would be the first contact point with the ground. Ideally, I would like to mount the lights at the top of the crash bars, where the short straight piece is, just before the downward curve to the front of the bar.
Originally, I was just going to drill a 6mm hole through the bar and fit the lights with a 6mm cap screw and bolt setup. I've been told that this is not a good idea as it will weaken the crash bar. I find it difficult to believe that a 6mm hole in a 26mm diameter crash bar will severely weaken it
. I'm not an engineer, so I take this advice into account and have not yet drilled any holes. I have seen some really ingenious bits and pieces that KLR owners have put together, but have not seen spots mounted to the new shape KLR.
Does any body have pic's, drawings, fittings, ideas etc. I have seen a very clever "hose clamp" method of fitting the lights, but would really appreciate any and all ideas or advice on this. Does anybody sell fittings specifically for spot mounting onto SW Motech bars?
