At last we are on our way. Mountainboy and I left Cape Town for Knysna on Friday morning 25 January and cruised via Du Toitskloof pass to the R62 and Robertson, Montagu and the obligatory stop at Ronnies Sex Shop outside Barrydale. Here we encountered a posse of about 6 or 7 R1200GS' causing Mountainboy (GS650) to shout with glee: "Nou gaan ons julle Kawasaki ouens lekker bliksem!"
The Beemers were hired by a group of Belgian tourists who threw caution and atgatt to the wind in the 38 degree (in the shade) temperatures by riding forth in shorts and shirt sleeves. They, however, were not anywhere as hardcore as the elderly French couple who stopped for a quick breather after having cycled (ja met trapfietse) in that heat from Swellendam that morning on their way to PE.
In Ladismith it was the Bee-em's turn to be outnumbered when we unexpectedly ran into Nicky and Rooipoot, both on KLE's. They were on their way to the weekend in hell with the guys from PE and Trailrider. We continued on through Oudtshoorn and I took Mountainboy down Montague pass as he had not done it before. In Knysna we met up with producers Detourer and David Moore and his crew.
Shooting starts today (26 January). Apparently we'll be doing the Prince Alfred pass, Swartberg and Meiringspoort and if time allows we'll pop downs Gamkaskloof for a look-see at Die Hel.
