I bought the bike with HID installed and it's very bright and all. A good addition to the bike, I reckon. I dunno what the OEM are like but if they're like the KLRs', you might as well get off and walk.
Observations/questions: -
I'm assuming I can adjust the HID so it shines further but then it might blind oncoming traffic, who in turn will blind me.
It seems to work intermittently when farting around with the high beam, which sometimes leaves me with no light. I think the toggle switch switches both off momentarily, when you're switching back and forth.
The HID seems dimmer when the high beam is on at the same time and it flickers. In fact, I seem to end up with less usefull light when they're both on than just the HID.
Where can I buy a spare HID globe?
And can I fit a standard globe and do a swift rewire while on the trail?
And will additional LED spots help much?
And what wattage, if they do?
