So me and Slowpoke decided the weather was looking good this weekend and we needed to test the Heidies on his bike. We choose to ride to Steylerville via the Groot Rivier poort.

The Route.

Track.jpg

We met up at 09:30 where I was busy purchasing refreshments. I knew it was going to be a long ride.

First stop at the Sand river dam. I hit a pothole the size a meteor crater at 120km/h just before this shot was taken. I was glad to be in one piece.

The dam wall. Its overflowing.

The Sand River.

Slowpoke coming slowly up the hill. Nice view of the Elands river valley in the background.

Hiway to Steytlerville. A great road to do but I will not recommend for newbies.

Pic12.jpg

The road runs along the mountain tops. GPS altitude readouts were amazing.

Pic13.jpg

Found this old burnt out house. Interesting inside.

Pic14.jpg

Found quite a few deserted houses. Would love to spend some time here.

Italian BMW on its way to Steytlerville.

Pic17.jpg

We found this skilpad pushing another skilpad out of the road. The other skilpad was obviously tired of walking or something.

Pic18.jpg

Great riding.

Pic19.jpg

We wanted to stop but then we saw the sign.

Pic20.jpg

The pass is very high. Donâ??t wanna fall down there.

Pic21.jpg

Unlike Slowpoke I donâ??t like parking near the edge.

Pic22.jpg

Slowpoke admiring the view.

Pic23.jpg

Slowpoke crossing the river. I crossed the river with so much speed that I even had water up my nostrils.

Pic24.jpg

Stopped for some refreshments. Here we met two farmers from Patensie.

Pic25.jpg

The â??littleâ? Groot Rivier.

Pic26.jpg

Coming out of the poort.

Pic27.jpg

Some views.

Suddenly the field changed. Aloes and green bush.

Pic30.jpg

Within the next few kilometers the field changed again. We are in the Karroo YEAH BABY!!!!

Pic31.jpg

The Karroo my favourite. Black is the main color.

Pic32.jpg

Pic33.jpg

Pic34.jpg

Tipical Karroo gravel hiway with huge bumps. I worked out I need at least 125km/h on the GPS before I go airborne.

Pic35.jpg

Steytlerville the nice town with food and cold beer. They also have nice waitresses.

Pic36.jpg

My bike was thirsty.

Pic37.jpg

The Royal.

Pic38.jpg

Some kids.

Kudu droe wors just for the teaseâ?¦.

Thanks for sharing that Cappie.

I was on that road last December in the rain after it had been raining for a few days.
It took me 7  hours to do 78 odd km's from the Patensie turn off to the river and back.
Two punctures and a get off and when I got to the river crossing there was a Landcruiser drowned in the river on the Steytlerville side. The river was running strong and waist height. Getting back up the road from the river was a lot of fun. Going down to the river I couldnt stop even with both wheels locked at times. That road in the wet is a clay monster of note.

Hiway to Steytlerville. A great road to do but I will not recommend for newbies.

My vrou did this route on her very 1st ride(Blanket Run). She loved it and didn't drop her bike once.
Awsome trip on a bike. Wanna do it again soon.

Lekker een Cappie :thumleft:
