Take my hat off to Honda for bringing this to the table. Namibia must be one of the most beautiful places to have such an event. Enjoy this adventure guys.

+1 and good to hear the AT is selling well worldwide

I would have hit a left turn at Brandberg White Lady lodge Ugab River crossing and headed to Brandberg West and then up north - but then that is just me. There must be reason to this madness!
Waiting - anticipating cool pics, epic stories and vids to follow from my favorite place on Earth. Need to get back there soon and ride my oldtimer XRV Africa Twin to re-connect. True Adventure!
Wishing all lucky participants an awesome and safe rest of trip.

Are you guys doing Khowarib Schlucht (gorge) this time round - fesh fesh for a short river crossing?

ZACAPE. I think this is the alternative route you mend but it looks gnarly on T4A. LOTS of sand? Do you think thats maybe?

It is gnarly! Friends have been down part of it a few weeks ago and had to turn around due to time. Lots of sand. Especially the thick grainy type with some dunes blowing in... We rode further west and got the same result. On the way to the valley of desolation 4x4 trail.

Any idea the challenges they have to complete? Least I undertook that they'll be "evaluated" doing stuff meaning a forced obstacle or something I guess.
I was thinking organisers may do stuff to bikes overnight but that could be very dangerous especially if isn't the obvious type stuff.

As I have it they have a few tasks ahead of them.

Each one was given a specific topic about Namibia and they have to do a 15 minute speech on it. THROTTLE got Fish River Canyon. Not sure about the other guys.

They have another topic for a shorter chat as well. They have to talk about something close to their hearts, like a charity for instance.

Not sure what else will will be asked from them.

Thanks

Anybody know how the live tracking works. They use T4A map but how do they track using T4A. Curious because it looks better than spotwella for potential future use among friends and family.

this is going to be interesting...........

Plenty sand, doable but have time and fluids available.
I have a better route left of Brandberg, better scenery wise and a tad easier.  Talk to me closer to your trip and I will guide you on that one.  :thumleft:

So live tracking is done by a company called https://www.africanstuff.co.za/

It doesn't break the bank either
What does it cost:
Long term rental (more than 5 days) costs R500 per month including batteries for first month
Short term rental (1 to 5 days) R100 per day including batteries Deposit R2000. 4 x AAA Ultimate lithium batteries per month @ R150 per set

Sarel (Africanstuff) went on to say the unit (GPS) will send coordinates every 5 minutes while in motion however, there may be 30 minute gaps depending on the low orbiting satellites. Says the batter will last 1-2 months using it every day. The Spot Gen3 can also work however, I don't own one so can't comment.

I used one of the African Stuff trackers on my recent trip to Koes to give Swambo some peace of mind. It worked absolutely faultless with no issues. I will definitely use one for my next solo trip. This is a great product at a very affordable price. :thumleft: :thumleft:
