Into Africa - DASKOP's 12000km drive

We also landed up at Maramba Lodge totally unplanned after meeting John Nomad at Kubu Cafe. He arranged accommodation for us when he hear that we have not booked any yet. John and his wife Carmen is leaving to Japan and back on their Super Tenere in December What a nice place and the manager , Greg even gave us 20% discount and include breakfast.
We also met Charley Boorman and his fellow GS riders there busy with their tour through Southern Africa.

Day 14 of our trip - Victoria Falls.

There is not much to say, rather show...........................  :eek7:

As we arrive at Vic Falls, there is a baboon, just sauntering through the parking area. No fear of humans.

No man, not the one with the cap, the other furrier one.   Shame on you Dirty XT.  :


I thought, maybe this is a tame baboon that hangs around here, waiting for it's leader from across the great divide to come and visit.

But, then we saw more and more of them. All have this "Get out of my way" attitude. Wonder where that comes from?

Yes sirree bob, I wonder too, he said.

You have to try and imagine the roar of the water cascading into the ravine and the all encompassing mist, when you look at this photo.

Victoria Falls is absolutely spectacular. I can fill pages with all the photos taken there, because of the feeling that you cannot do enough to make people understand the majesty of the place.

We decide to do the walk down to the river, a place they call the Boiling Pot.

I thought we would encounter more people along the way, but it is a rather stiff climb.

Saw a Dassie along the way.

Beautiful forestry and cascading mountain stream.

And then there was the boiling, churning river ...................... you have to do this ............ Bucket List 101.

This is what memories are made of !!!! - The falls were spectacular , and what a pleasure to see them in full flow . I could easily have stayed at Marampa for another 6 weeks .

We had the place all to ourselves.

Saw the bungee jumpers in action at the bridge.

It's the type of place that you can sit for hours and contemplate the beauty of God's creation.

On the way up, we meet some more of the local characters. Seems like they are of the opinion that we are trespassing. Unfortunately, they continuously raid the dustbins, creating an area littered with packets.

We catch up on the history of Vic Falls and visit the local curios market

Its time for a few more long stares at our imposing surroundings.

The feeling, when leaving Vic Falls, is like that which you get when going on a trip.......what did I forget, did I switch the stove off? I better go back and take another look.

Eventually we leave, back to Maramba Lodge.

Back at Maramba Lodge, we visit the pub. It is the perfect place to end off the day.

The crocodile is laying in its customary position on the river bank.

The Mosi is cold.

Life is great in Africa. What more do you want?

As we are sitting on the verandah outside the pub, we see a herd of elephants passing through the trees across the river from us.

This time the elephants are a lot closer than our previous encounter. What an awesome experience seeing them like this.

Now the visit to Vic Falls is complete and we can move on.
