So we finish our walk through the village and head back to the shore.

More scenes on our way.

We stopped at one of the other lodges for a beer. Played the local board game. Can't remember what it is called. Very friendly barman, who, like so many others would like to find work in South Africa.

Amazing, and we would like to be at Lake Malawi.

Just a small correction the place you think is Club Mac is actually The Gecko Lounge . Club Mac was the larnie spot where the airport was .

OOPS. You are right Murphy.

One incorrectly marked photo sparked off this confusion.

Sorry, Cape Mac seems to be the place where we played the board game with the barkeep.

Club Mac was, as Murphy said, quite a ride from where we staying. Will get to that later.

Dankie swaer.        :thumleft:

Lake Malawi.

The water was very clear............could see the fish from the jetty we were on.

Last one before Rhys picks us up with the boat and takes us back to Illovo Cottage.

Rhys picks us up along the shore and greets us like long lost family. We head back to the cottage and meet Gaille and Gracie (Gaille's canine child) and have some sun-downers. Feels like we have known these amazing people all our lives.

Rhys informs us that we are having a serious braai.

OK, when are we starting the fire?

No boet, that is done around the corner, by the staff, all kitted out. When we are ready, the braai drum is wheeled in with the coals all ready, the meat is brought out, all ready prepared. All Rhys does, is put the meat on the coals.

When we go inside, the table is fully set, the salads are all prepared and all the condiments done. The attending staff are dressed up in their whites.

While we are sitting outside, our neighbours (also Illovo staff), decide to go for a cruise. Rhys gets a call a little later. The boat does not want to start. They are stranded within sight of us. No problem, the staff launch another boat and tow them in.

You can just imagine the heckling that took place as they arrived back.        :lol8:

We are being spoilt rotten.     :thumleft:

13 July 2013 - Illovo Cottage
Cape Maclear - Lake Malawi

Day of chillaxation.

We spend some time on the boat exploring the lake. The size of this lake is mind blowing.

It is also called the Calendar Lake.................something to do with 365 km long, 52 km wide, 12 km something and 7 km deep... I cannot exactly remember.

Murphy can you shed some light?

???

14 July 2013

1st photo is of one the three dwellings on the Illovo Estate,

Time to take a walk along the lake, just to get a different perspective on it all.

Lake Malawi is a world heritage site. There is a museum / info centre (not staffed - or so it seems), but the displays are in a bad state and the buildings are dilapidated. .

There are some very interesting rock and root displays.

It is very peaceful and quiet as you go further away from the "residential" area.

Can you imagine the volumetric implication of the difference in water levels as indicated by the lines on the rocks?

365 000 x 7 000 x 1 500 = 4 106 250 000 000 liters of water.

Just around the corner of the "touristy" part of Cape Maclear is this most amazing private little bay. The perfect little alcove to ponder the issues of life...................

Or, just to enjoy this amazing place.

There is that falling leaf again.........

More scenes from Lake Malawi. The shear beauty of the place cannot be re-created, but I am finding it difficult to minimize the photos that I am posting, because I am reliving the scene and hope to give you a glimpse of that.

It is hard to imagine why someone would let their property on Lake Malawi go to ruin.

The joys of childhood........................as we get older we forget how the basic things of life can bring us great joy.
